<p>De zomer staat weer voor de deur. Dat betekent lekker weer, zon, dus veel naar buiten en vitamine D opdoen. Maar wat is vitamine D nu eigenlijk en waar is dit goed voor?</p>
<p>Vitamine D speelt een belangrijke rol bij de botopbouw, goede werking van spieren en het immuunsysteem. Het verlaagt het risico op kanker, auto-immuunziekten, tuberculose, diabetes type 2 en hart- en vaataandoeningen. Vitamine D komt beperkt voor in voedingsmiddelen zoals vette vis, eieren en zuivelproducten en wordt vooral onder invloed van zonlicht via de huid opgenomen. Daardoor staan de vitamine D spiegels aan het eind van de winter en in het begin van de lente vaak laag.</p>
<p>Het optimaliseren van het vitamine D in de zomer kan een preventieve functie hebben en bescherming bieden bij virussen, waaronder het corona virus. Luchtweginfecties komen aan het eind van de winter en in het begin van de lente vaker voor dan in de zomer en het najaar wanneer de vitamine D-spiegels juist hoger staan. Daarnaast is vitamine D belangrijk voor de aanmaak van serotonine, waardoor een tekort aan vitamine D kan samengaan met psychische klachten zoals vermoeidheid en (winter)depressie. Dus ook het suppleren van het vitamine D in de wintermaanden is van belang.</p>
<p>Laat maar doorkomen dus die zomer, wij zijn er klaar voor!</p>
